The majority of our horses
are registered Morgans provided by primarily one supplier, The Meunier Farm in Tanneytown,
Maryland. They are owned by several of our members and primarily boarded in
Eastover, Burlington and Catawba, North Carolina. They are worked as teams about every weekend and
participate in reenactments/living histories about once per month. When not participating
in our unit activities, they are used for trail rides and riding lessons. Our Morgans are
the older (Lippitt) breed and are between 15-16 hands tall and are very calm. They
tolerate the noise and confusion of battle very well and their calmness has allowed
us to "push the guns forward" in numerous battles.
The
American Morgan Horse
Association Web site has additional information about the Morgan Horse - read about
the Morgan's
Standard
of Perfection and anatomical chart.
We currently have 12 Morgans and two
Quarterhorses, see below to learn more about them. Visit our Artillery
Harnesses' page to learn about horse care and saddling procedures, and please see The Artillery Horse's Prayer.

limbers. |
Dixie - Three year old daughter of Shadow and
Traveler. She is a small black mare currently in training with our second team. Eager to
work, she stands up for herself in the herd. Special buddies with her half brothers, Rebel
and Ramius. We have high expectations of her. |
Surprise - Truly a surprise. The vet told us not to worry about the
young ungelded Rebel riding the mares. He was too young they said! After we gelded him for
his 1st birthday present, we realized he and Vigilark had mated and given us a Surprise.
She is a big, loving yearling, and enjoys watching the others work! |
|
Stormy - A spicy little mare
that will come into her own. |
Vigilark - Dam of Surprise, this big
12-year-old
mare is always willing to do what is asked of her. As a wheel horse paired with Ramius,
she is the nucleus of our second team. This big dark brown mare can stop and pull
anything! |
Windsong - A 16-year-old brown mare who, like Casey, is an excellent
outrider. Her son Ramius is the pulling partner with Vigilark. Windsong and Allen are our
two strongest horses. She recently gave birth to Early. |
| Cinderella
- An 18-year-old bay we have just acquired. Too old to integrate into the teams, we have
used her as an outrider and plan to breed her this year also. |
Gwendolyn - A young bay mare that we hope either to integrate into the
team our develop as an outrider. |
Early
- Our newest foal - son of Windsong and Traveler, born July 2000. |
Allen - A
16-year-old dark brown gelding
(half-brother to Ethan), Allen is the strongest horse we own. Paired with Ethan as wheel
horses on our veteran team, they can pull anything. Gentle enough for any lady or child to
ride, but strong in battle. |
Ethan - A
16-year-old dark brown gelding
(half-brother to Allen), Ethan is the highest-strung horse in the unit. He is a gentle
giant, and a very strong one. |
Gemini - A
12-year-old dark brown gelding, this is
Geminis year. Fully integrated into our veteran team and paired with Flirt, they are
surefooted and steady leaders. Gemini is a surviving twin, his sister died at birth. |
Rebel - A
10-year-old bay, son of Casey and
Traveler. He is being groomed to replace Flirt as a leader on the veteran team. Rebel is
still just "green broke" but is showing promise. Sired Surprise, to the surprise
of us all. |
Ramius - A
10-year-old bay, half brother to Rebel and Dixie, sired
by Traveler and Windsong. Ramius is easily the sweetest horse we own. Paired with
Vigilark, he is young and powerful. |
| Copper
- The second of our non-Morgan horses, Copper is a well behaved Quarterhorse that has the
potential to be an excellent outrider. |
Traveler -
Our 16-year-old black stallion. Sire of Dixie, Rebel, Ramius, and Early. An even tempered animal
capable of throwing gorgeous offspring. There is none better to promote the Morgan type
into the next generation of horses. |
