Commander’s Notes

What a great late summer early fall we have enjoyed. Cedar Creek - Oct 99 Bentonville living history, Murry's Mill, Malcom Blue, Raleigh and Cedar Creek all have been great events, both local and large. I look forward to next year and what we are are all capable of doing to further the understanding of horsedrawn field artillery!

If you have missed the events take a look at the articles and photos to bring you up to date. Please continue to make your "horse payments" payable to the 10th N.C.S.T. and send them to me. Lastly, please continue to support us with your presence.

Hope to see you all at Colfax!

Capt. David L. Stanley, Cmdg.

Saint Barbara's Day - Washington, D.C.

Once again we will join with the Minute Men Cannoneers to celebrate Saint Barbara's Day on 3 December 1999. The costs will be $25.00 per ticket. This is a formal affair so uniforms and accessories should be well prepared. It's a good time and excuse to buy the shoulder scales for your Federal shell jacket. If you wish to attend please pay me NLT 27 November so I can provide a final head-count!

Colfax - 1999

Please plan to join us for our 5th Annual Thanksgiving event at Colfax on 27 November. If you wish to arrive on the 26th that will be fine also, just bring your tent to stay the evening. We will drill on Saturday so bring both of your uniforms. We will again ask that everyone bring a covered dish. Please coordinate what you will bring with Mimi Stewart or Joyce Stanley.

Powder and Primer Fund

At Cedar Creek we mentioned that we would begin to pass the hat at each event to build up the Powder and Primer Fund. You may not realize it but it costs about $5.00 per shot from our guns. Twenty-five pounds of powder runs about $160.00 and primers are $.85 each. Currently we don't dip into the larger fund to buy these supplies, we keep that fund for true emergencies. Several individuals have bought all the powder we have been using, so when you see the Powder and Primer jar - give liberally! Thanks!

Bentonville 2000 Registration

Please give Capt Stanley your registration for Bentonville at Colfax. The cost is $8.00 until the 31st of December and $10.00 thereafter. There will be no onsite Confederate registration.
